Commentary on PhysTEC Teachers data: No graduates from FIU completed a secondary teacher preparation program in physics in the baseline years. Baseline and 2007-2008 data are official data from the Florida Board of Governors which, for FIU, does not report science education degrees by field. 2008-2009 data for Other Science and Mathematics Education are from the Accreditation and Assessment office at FIU.
PhysTEC Secondary Graduate: Any student that graduates from FIU that is a Physics Learning Assistant and has completed coursework (or other state approved preparation, such as Florida Teacher Comprehensive Examinations) necessary to enter the teaching profession as stipulated by the State of Florida.
PhysTEC Future Teachers (pipeline): Any FIU Physics Learning Assistant that is taking an education class beyond the Seminar in Science Education (PHY 3012), has declared an education major or minor, or is a Noyce Scholarship Recipient. The Future Teacher (pipeline) count does not include students that are expected to graduate in the academic year being reported as they will be counted as PhysTEC Secondary Graduates (see above).

Commentary on mentors and mentees data: PhysTEC Mentor includes current TIR, former TIR, and CHERPEO coordinator. The Mentored PhysTEC Teachers 2007-2008 includes a student that worked with a member of the TAG rather than with the TIR. The Mentored PhysTEC Teachers 2008-2009 includes a student that taught a physics modeling class for FIU’s on-campus high school. He was mentored by the CHEPREO coordinator and former TIR. The non-PhysTEC mentored teachers include active members of our physics modeling group. It does not include teachers that have attended workshops sponsored by associated physics projects such as CHEPREO.
